Veni refers to a tiara-like hair ornament worn at the back of the head. The hair is first tied neatly into a bun. Then a Veni or tiara is placed above the bun, and a hairpin is worn on the centre of the bun holding it in place. This piece is crafted in sterling silver and then plated in 18k gold.
Gold and silver filigree, also known as ‘Tarakashi’ in Odia, flourished in the city of Cuttack under royal patronage. This delicate, time-consuming style of metal work uses high-quality metal wire and the hands of very skilled artisans who can transform wire into beautiful jewellery.
